Hamilton Farmers Market

Location: River Road Carpark

Dates: Every Sunday 8am - 12pm

The Hamilton Farmers Market is the key weekly event for locals to get their supply of fresh fruit and vege. Running since 2006, the market boasts up to 50 stall holders each Sunday. You can select your weekly fresh veges, pick up a locally made bottle of olive oil or jam, and even have a delicious barista made coffee while you stroll around.

The Waikato is a bountiful agricultural area, and this market has the range of produce to match. From fresh vergetables and herbs, to honey, fresh juices, breads and cheeses, even a butcher's van, this is foodies heaven. You can't beat talking to the farmer who has grown your food, and may even have some great ideas on preparing meals in new ways.

As an authentic farmers market, there is a strong emphasis on food, so you won't find arts and crafts or associated stalls. There is a strict policy for the stallholders not to onsell produce from other merchants, so you are speaking with the actual growers or manufacturers of the products. This way quality is assured, and the ever important local aspect is kept pure.

It's a great morning out, so be sure to treat yourself to some baked goods while doing your shopping. There is often live entertainment with a local artist providing a soundtrack to your morning. This is the local community providing for the local community. Fresh from farm to you, this is how things used to be.

Cambridge Farmers Market

There are also 2 other markets run by Waikato Farmers Markets collective. Cambridge Farmers Market is run each Saturday between 8am - 12pm. Along a similar vein, but slightly smaller, Cambridge is also worth the 20km trip from Hamilton.

Twilight Market

Te Awamutu plays host to the popular Twilight market during the Summer months. Running each Thursday afternoon from 3pm til 6pm on Gorst Avenue (Selwyn Park). A great place to stop in after work and grab some fresh food for the weekend. Timed to daylight hours, you won't be stuck in the dark walking around.
