Location: Roger's Rose Garden, Hamilton Gardens
Dates: 10 - 13 November 2016
The Pacific Rose Bowl Festival is a popular event for flower enthusiasts and curious locals alike. Each year up to 5000 spectators attend the 4 day event. The main purpose is to judge NZ Rose of the Year. This festival is unique as it is one of the few in the world where the winners are decided solely by votes from the public.
Anyone can vote, and select up to 5 roses for their nominations. The winning roses are based on this preference vote. Children are welcomed to vote and their nominations go toward a separate children's choice award. Apparently men tend to go for darker roses, while women vote for the light colours.
In it's 12th year, the event also offers live entertainment in the relaxing surroundings of the Hamilton Gardens. Coffee, tea and food is on hand with a temporary cafe set up nearby. There is also art on display and for sale, and stalls add a market atmosphere to this community event. Did we mention it's free! Don't miss the Pacific Rose Bowl Festival 2014!
